It's one of Malta's most common tourist mix-ups. The Blue Lagoon and the Blue Grotto sound alike and both promise blue water — but they're on different islands, offer different experiences, and you visit them in completely different ways.

A sheltered channel of shallow, brilliant-turquoise water between Comino and Cominotto. You go there to swim, snorkel and spend beach time, arriving by boat trip or ferry. Plan for half a day to a full day. Everything else on this site is about the Blue Lagoon.
A series of sea caves and a natural limestone arch near Wied iż-Żurrieq in the south of Malta. Small traditional boats take you on a short ride to see the caves and the way sunlight lights up the water an electric blue. You can drive or bus there and it takes an hour or two — it's sightseeing, not swimming.
