How to Get to the Blue Lagoon (Comino)

The Blue Lagoon sits on Comino (Kemmuna), a small island between Malta and Gozo. Because there's no fixed link, every visitor crosses the water — from the north-tip ferry port at Ċirkewwa, from a harbour town like Sliema, or from Mġarr on Gozo. Pick the route that's closest to where you're staying.

Option 1: The Ċirkewwa ferry (fast & cheap)

Ċirkewwa is at Malta's northern tip, next to the Gozo Channel terminal. Small operators run frequent passenger boats across to Comino in roughly 10–25 minutes. It's the quickest and cheapest crossing, and it lets you stay as long as you like. Drive and park nearby, or take the bus.

Option 2: Bus + ferry (budget route)

Malta's public buses reach Ċirkewwa from most tourist areas, though it's a long ride from the south. From Valletta or Sliema allow well over an hour each way. Combine the bus with the Ċirkewwa ferry for the lowest-cost visit — just start early, because the journey eats into your beach time.

Option 3: A boat trip with pick-up (easiest)

The least hassle is an organised trip that collects you near your hotel in Sliema, Bugibba or St Julian's. You skip the buses and parking, often get the caves and Gozo thrown in, and the operator handles any Comino access registration for you. It costs more than the bare ferry but saves a lot of logistics.

Insider tips for the crossing

• Go early. The first boats beat both the heat and the crowds.
• Sit at the back on open boats if you want shade and less spray.
• Bring cash for small kiosks and the return ferry — card isn't guaranteed.
• Check the wind. On rough days some small-boat routes are cancelled; larger ferries are steadier.
